Korean Studies Concentration

I'm originally from Habersham, Georgia, and since May 2021 a proud graduate of the University of ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ. My journey at ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ took an unexpected turn when I stumbled upon the Summer Language Institute. Initially set on majoring in psychology, my fascination with exploring different cultures and my dream of teaching abroad led me to prioritize language studies. ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s Summer Language Intensive program not only equipped me with fluency in Korean but also immersed me in its captivating history, delicious food, and vibrant pop culture. This experience ignited a passion for languages and culture, prompting me to pivot my academic focus. ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s East Asian Studies program offered me invaluable opportunities and close connections with professors who fueled my intellectual curiosity. One standout moment was when we hosted a documentary screening on Japanese history, the director came to shed light on diverse perspectives embedded in historical narratives.

In 2023, I was honored to receive a Fulbright grant, propelling me to an all-boys middle school in South Korea's Chungbuk Province, where I now reside with a homestay family, continuing my exploration of Korean language and culture. Looking forward, I aspire to pursue a master's degree in either museum studies or tourism, driven by my passion for global cultural exchange. To incoming students, I say: keep an open mind! ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ's East Asian Studies program offers a wealth of enriching experiences and dedicated mentors who are invested in your success. Embrace the journey and open to the diverse perspectives that await you.
